Welcome to the Frequently Asked Questions page for Hemlock and Hearth! We know that shopping online can sometimes raise questions, so we've compiled a list of the most common queries we receive from our valued customers.

CANDLE CARE

How do you take care of your candles?

Each candle includes care and lighting instructions on the bottom label. Candles add a fragrant enhancement to living and work spaces and are safe to enjoy, but we encourage care and attention to the following guidelines:

  • First Burn: When you first light your candle, allow the wax to melt all the way to the outer edges of the container. Allowing a full melt pool guarantees an even burn (no tunneling) and maximum scent throw.
  • Maximum Session Burn Times: Never burn a candle for longer than four hours at a time. If a candle is burnt for excessive periods without being allowed to re-solidify, the excessive heat will cause the essential oil to burn out faster than it should.
  • Candle Storage: To ensure your candles are kept in optimum condition, keep them out of direct sunlight and store them in a cool, dark place.
  • Wick:We use 100% cotton, lead-free wicks designed for a clean, consistent burn. For best performance, trim the wick to ¼ inch before each use using a wick trimmer or clean scissors.
  • Half Inch Rule: Discontinue use of a candle when there is ½ inch of wax left at the bottom of the jar. This will prevent possible heat damage to the counter/surface, or the container itself.
  • Safety: Do not leave candles unattended and place away from children and pets. Always place candles on a heat-resistant base, and set on a leveled and stable surface.

How Do I Store My Candles?

When not in use, candles should be stored in a cool, dry place, free from dust and protected from direct sunlight.

How Long Do The Candles Last?

Candle care ensures you get the most out of your Hemlock & Hearth candle. Our Amber 10 oz jars are hand-poured using a clean-burning coconut soy wax blend, double-wicked for an even, radiant melt.
~40-45 hours with proper care
Trim to ¼ inch before your first burn and after each use
Limit to no more than 4 hours
Burn in sessions of 3–4 hours max, or until a full melt pool forms

GENERAL INQUIRIES

How Long Does Shipping Take?

Each order is hand-packed with care, and we do our best to get it out to you as quickly as possible.

🕯️ Pre-Launch Orders:

We officially launch on July 1. All orders placed before July 1 will begin shipping on launch day in the order they were received.

📦 Processing Time (Post-Launch):

After launch, please allow 3–5 business days for order processing before shipment. You’ll receive tracking information as soon as your order is on its way.

Free standard shipping is available on U.S. orders of $200 or more.

What Payment Methods Do You Accept?

We accept all major credit cards including Visa, Mastercard and Paypal.

If your credit card is in any other currency, the rate of exchange will be that of your card issuer and you may be charged an international fee by them.

Can I Track My Order Once It Has Been Shipped?

Your tracking link will be sent in your email. For any other tracking information please contact customer care by emailing order@hemlockandhearth 

What Is Your Returns Policy?

Returns & Exchanges

At Hemlock & Hearth, each item is handcrafted in small batches with care. Due to the nature of our handmade products, we do not offer refunds. However, if something isn’t right with your order, we are always open to making it right.

Damaged Items

If your order arrives damaged, please contact us at support@hemlockandhearth.com with clear photos of the issue within 72 hours of delivery. We’ll be happy to offer a replacement or store credit when appropriate.

Not Quite Right?

While we don’t offer refunds, we are open to exchanges or store credit on a case-by-case basis. To be eligible:

Contact us withing 3 days of delivery
Items must be unused, in original packaging

Return shipping is the customer’s responsibility

For orders over $200, we offer complimentary return shipping if the exchange is approved.

Processing Returns

Once your return is received and inspected, we will process your exchange or store credit within 10 business days and send you a confirmation by email.

Do You Offer International Shipping?

Hemlock & Hearth currently ships to customers within the United States only. We are a small, handcrafted brand and are working thoughtfully to expand our fulfillment options.
