Ghost of Summer opens with the lush, ripe scent of watermelon, a fruit heavy with memory, joy, and a complicated history. As the brightness fades, smoked oud emerges, cloaking the sweetness in shadow. There is beauty in the contrast—laughter echoing through humid evenings, woodsmoke curling through the air at dusk, and the ache of something golden slipping away.

Watermelon once represented independence and self-sufficiency for newly emancipated Black communities in the South, grown and sold with dignity and purpose before being twised into stereotypes. Let this candle hold space for both sweetness and smoke, for histories told in scent, and for the way summer always lingers, even after it’s gone.

10% of proceeds from this candle are donated to Acres of Ancestry, a Black  land justice initiative.

Packaging:

Each Hemlock & Hearth candle is hand-poured into a Amber tumbler jar a clean, minimalist vessel that glows warmly as it burns. The jars are sleek yet weighty, offering a luxurious experience with every light.

To complete the experience, each candle is housed in a matte black paper candle tube, sealed with a signature wax stamp and finished with a collection-specific label. Whether gifted or displayed at home, the packaging reflects our dedication to timeless design and intimate ritual. ( Option coming in Sept 2025 to ship without tube)
